At present, domestic and foreign authoritative institutions, organizations and experts have conducted various tests and assessments on the blue light hazards of LEDs, and formulated the IEC62471 blue light safety standard. This standard applies to all light sources except lasers and has been widely accepted by all countries.

According to the standard, various light sources can be divided into zero hazard (attention time>10000s), hazard type I (100s≤attention time<10000s), hazard type II (0.25s≤attention time<100s) and hazard type III according to the fixation time (Looking time ≤ 0.25s).

At present, the basic hazards used as LED lighting are zero and one hazards, which are similar to other light sources and are within the safety threshold.

According to the inspection by the Shanghai Lighting Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Station (2013.12), among the 27 LED samples from different sources, 14 belong to the non-hazardous category and 13 belong to the first-class hazard. These light sources and lamps are used in normal ways and are harmless to human eyes.

Anses also pointed out in this report that our commonly used "warm white" LED home lights are no different from traditional lights, and the risk of phototoxicity is small.

However, the report also emphasized that other types of LED lighting, such as flashlights, car headlights, decorations or toys, may be rich in blue light, which belongs to the second category of hazards and is not within the safety threshold, so the eyes cannot be stared at.

In addition, the screens of computers, smartphones, and tablet computers are important sources of blue light. As children and adolescents belong to a particularly sensitive group, their eyes cannot completely filter blue light, and their screen usage time should be limited.
